A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced IT Support Consultant to join our team in Reading. As an IT Support Consultant you will ensure the effective delivery of IT services to the Practice, working across the IT function to ensure that IT supports the achievement of the strategic objectives of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Helpdesk/Business Support

  • Work in a rota with other IT Support Consultants to provide a quality Helpdesk service during the hours of 8am till 6pm weekdays
  • Ensure there is a helpdesk call for every problem that is being diagnosed and solved
  • Review, categorise and prioritise unassigned helpdesk calls
  • Resolve and close helpdesk calls on a priority and longest open basis
  • Ensure there is user acceptance before any helpdesk call is closed
  • Assist other IT Support Consultants with their helpdesk calls where possible
  • Maintain helpdesk service levels defined in the helpdesk methodology
  • Escalate problems as soon as possible once it has been determined more assistance is required
  • Build/rebuild of desktops and laptops, including completion of PC checklist, user acceptance forms and any other related documentation
  • Collaborate with other IT Support Consultant’s to develop and improve the Helpdesk/Support service in line with best practice
  • Visit regional offices when required to provide regular on-site support and to assist in problem resolution


  • Utilising negotiating skills, always obtain the best price for purchased equipment
  • Maintain hardware asset management information
  • Take responsibility for nominated areas of project work and delivering them effectively and on time
  • Maintain clean and tidy server rooms, secure cupboards and IT areas in all offices
  • Control, project manage and effectively deliver nominated projects


  • Stay current with the latest changes in the industry using various news sources
  • Undertake evaluations of new technologies/trials and make recommendations regarding their suitability and possible implementation to improve resilience, performance, or communication within PBA or to drive cost down
About You

Essential Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good problem analysis and solving abilities
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to explain technical issues in a way that non-technical staff can comprehend
  • Competent in diagnosing complex issues on desktop and server operating systems
  • Experience in supporting Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016

Desirable Skills:

  • 2-3 years’ experience
  • MCTS Windows 7 or 10
  • MCTS Windows Server 2012 or 2016
  • ITIL / SDA awareness/skills
