We are now seeking to add to our team in Taunton by recruiting a Geo-Environmental Engineer or Assistant Engineer.

PBA have had operations in the South West for over 20 years and we have been involved in some of the landmark land development projects across the region. Our office in Taunton is in the heart of the beautiful Somerset countryside and yet are still within reach of London and the South East. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Engineer if you are from the region or maybe just looking for a better work-life balance or a great quality of living.

The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of Geo-Environmental and Geotechnical projects from single discipline due diligence through to large multi-disciplinary land development sites as part of planning, site acquisition and construction.

Key responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Liaison with in-house and external clients on a wide variety of projects
  • Geo-environmental data assessment, analysis, risk assessment modelling and reporting
  • Field sampling and monitoring
  • Phase 1 contaminated land and geotechnical desk studies
  • Phase 2 Ground investigation procurement, supervision, management and reporting
  • Supervising and monitoring, remediation and land development projects
  • An understating of geotechnical engineering


About You:

The successful individual will have a degree in either Environmental geoscience, Environmental Science/Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnics, Geology, Civil Engineering with modules in Soil Mechanics or Environmental Science with Geology and Maths modules, and will demonstrate:

  • Strong understanding of geochemistry and risk assessment techniques
  • Practical experience of site investigation and laboratory analysis techniques
  • An understanding or experience of soil and groundwater remediation techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of geology and geotechnical principles including hydrogeology will be a distinct advantage
  • Experience of site investigation techniques and soil and rock logging
  • Computer literacy in MS Office suite and ideally risk analysis software
  • Enthusiastic team player willing to undertake site as well as office-based work
  • Keen to learn and expand their experience

Good communication skills are essential in order to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders. Ideally the candidate is working towards Chartership of at least one professional institution. Training forms an important part of our staff progression and candidates must be willing to take on new challenges.
