Stantec have long been established as one of the leading consultancies in the East and we are now looking to add to our Geotechnical team with the appointment of a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer.

Our Cambridge offices have just moved to a new build premises in the heart of the commercial district at 50/60 Station Road.  Our new office provides a vibrant, collaborative and agile working space commensurate with our corporate ethos and Cambridge life.  We also offer the prospect of working within an award-winning team, and live and work in the beautiful historic city of Cambridge.

The Geo team provides input to a wide range of brownfield and greenfield development schemes ranging from small sites for private developers to large multipurpose land development schemes for regional development agencies and blue chip clients.  Within the East and Midlands region our projects range from the redevelopment of former barracks and airfield sites such as at Alconbury and Waterbeach with their legacy of contamination and geotechnical issues, investigations and assessments on landfill sites, large scale urban extensions and new settlements, housing schemes, work for colleges and the University estate, UK wide projects for Center Parcs.

For the successful candidate there is the potential to further develop their career as a senior member of the overall national geotechnical group within Stantec and to build upon the existing local presence and expand the team and workload.

Key responsibilities:

  • Review of Phase 1 land stability and contaminated land desk studies
  • Field sampling and monitoring of soils, gas and groundwater
  • Phase 2 geo-environmental reports/geotechnical investigation reports including outline design of foundations, retaining walls and slope stability assessment.
  • Design and optioneering for remediation
  • Organising site works, including obtaining services information and organising sub-contractors, plant, equipment and consumables.
  • Site supervision of Phase II geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigation and remediation works
  • Undertaking validation works including site monitoring and sampling, gas and groundwater monitoring
  • Preparation of borehole logs on Holebase SI
  • Input into Environmental Statements and writing of ES Chapters



About You:

The successful individual will hold a BSc and MSc in a relevant discipline and have a strong Geo-Environmental experience served in a similar environment.

In addition, the candidate must have:

  • Practical experience of delivery of infrastructure or contaminated land remediation schemes
  • Understanding of geotechnical principles and soil structure interaction
  • Be literate in settlement and slope stability analysis software

The ability to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders is essential as part of our collaborative, multi-disciplinary offering, and the candidate should ideally be Chartered or working towards Chartership.
